An Offbeat Thanksgiving
It was an unusual Thanksgiving.
No turkey, stuffing, cranberries in sight.
Rather, a smorgasbord of culinary treasures,
Served on kaleidoscopic platters.
Dishes from Italy, France, India represented
To share among a diverse group of friends.
Mouths on fire instantly after
Indulging on a spicy eggplant dish.
The pungent aroma of truffle cheese
Brought out after the main courses
Brings full stomachs back to empty.
Wash it all down with a smooth as silk
Malbec from Argentina.
Gorged from the decadent fruit platter,
We idly lay back on the couch
In a food paralysis.
It will take the strength of Hercules
To get us standing again.
